If you have a modern TV that connects to your home network via Wi-Fi or LAN, then with a high probability you have the opportunity to use your smartphone or tablet on Android and iOS as a remote control for this TV, all you need is to download the TV remote on the phone, which is an application from the Play Store or App Store, install it and configure it for use.
In this article - in detail about the applications of the remotes for smart TVs Samsung, LG, Sony Bravia, Philips, Panasonic and Sharp for Android and iPhone, as well as about universal remotes for the phone. I note that almost all of these applications work over the network: both the TV, smartphone and another device must be connected to the same home network, for example, to one router - it doesn’t matter via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable, and only a few can connect from TV to IR (IR), if you have an infrared transmitter on your phone. Samsung Smart View TV and Samsung TV and Remote (IR) on Android and iOS
For Samsung TVs, two official Android and iOS applications, the remote control, were previously available. Samsung Smart View is suitable for any phone and tablet, and works with Samsung Smart TV over Wi-Fi. Samsung TV and Remote (IR) was designed for phones with an infrared sensor, but so far it has disappeared from official app stores.
As well as in other such applications, after searching for the TV on the network and connecting to it, you will be able to use remote control functions (including a virtual touch panel and text input) and transfer media content from the device to the TV.
Judging by the reviews, the remote control application for Samsung on Android does not always work as it should, but it’s worth a try, and it’s possible that by the time you read this review, the flaws have been fixed.
You can download the Samsung Smart View TV remote from Google Play (for Android) and the Apple App Store (for iPhone and iPad).
LG TV PLUS and LG TV Remote
The official application that implements the functions of the remote control on iOS and Android for LG Smart TVs, available today in the Play Store and App Store is called LG TV Plus and is only suitable for TVs with Web OS. But you can find old remote control options called LG TV Remote and download them from third-party sites.
After launching the application, you will need to find a supported TV on the network, after which you can use the remote control on the phone (tablet) screen to control its functions, switch the channel and even to create screenshots of what is currently shown on TV.
You can download the remote for LG TVs from official app stores
Sony Video & TV SideView - remote control for Sony Bravia TV on Android and iPhone phones
The official remote control application for Sony equipment, and in our particular case for a Bravia TV, is called Sony Video and TV SideView and is available in application stores for both Android and iPhone.
After installation, at the first start, you will be asked to select your television provider (I do not have one, because I chose the first one that was suggested - this does not matter for the remote control), as well as a list of TV channels for which the program should be displayed in the application .
After that, go to the application menu and select “Add device”. It will search for supported devices on the network (the TV must be turned on at this time). The application interface changes during updates, but the logic of work remains unchanged.
Select the desired device, and then enter the code, which at that time will be displayed on the TV screen. You will also see a request on whether to use the ability to turn on the TV from the remote control (for this, the TV settings will be changed so that it is connected to Wi-Fi even when turned off).
Done. The remote control icon will appear on the top line of the application, clicking on which you will get to the remote control features, which include:
- Sony standard remote control (scrolls vertically, occupies three screens).
- On separate tabs, there is a touch panel, a text input panel (only work if a supported application or settings item is open on the TV).
In case you have several Sony devices, you can add them all to the application and switch between them in the application menu.
You can download the Sony Video and TV SideView Remote from the official application pages:
Remote control for TV Panasonic TV Remote 3 on Android and iPhone
There is a similar application for Panasonic Smart TV, available in three versions (I recommend the latest - Panasonic TV Remote 3).
In the remote control for Android and iPhone for iPad Panasonic TV there are elements for switching channels, a keyboard for TV, a gamepad for games, remote content playback on a TV.
You can download Panasonic TV Remote for free from official app stores:
Sharp SmartCentral Remote
If you are the owner of Sharp smart TV, then the official remote control application for Android and iPhone is available for you, capable of controlling several TVs at once, as well as broadcasting content from your phone and from the Internet to the big screen.
There is one possible drawback - the application is available only in English. Perhaps there are other shortcomings (but, unfortunately, I have nothing to test on), since the reviews from the official application are not the best. Unfortunately, the Sharp TV remote has disappeared from official app stores, but it can still be found on third-party Android app download sites.
Philips TV Remote
And another official application - Philips TV Remote (formerly called Philips My Remote) for TVs of the corresponding brand. I don’t have the opportunity to check the operation of the application, but judging by the screenshots, we can assume that this remote control on the phone for the TV is no less functional than the above counterparts.
Naturally, there are all the standard functions of such applications: watching online TV, transferring video and images to a TV, managing saved recordings of transmissions (this can also be done with the remote control application for Sony) and in the context of this article - TV remote control, as well as its setting .

Xiaomi Mi Remote Controller
If you have a Xiaomi TV (or other equipment from this manufacturer), use the official Mi Remote Controller, specially designed to control all the company's smart technology, including TV.
The Android version of the remote for Xiaomi can be downloaded from the Play Store .
Android TV Remote Control
Android TV Remote Control is the official Google application, potentially suitable for all Android TVs. There is the ability to control the TV voice, using the touch screen and other features.
The application is available for free on the Play Store .
Unofficial universal TV remotes for Android phone
When searching for TV remotes on Android tablets and phones on Google Play, I come across many unofficial applications. Of those that have good reviews, and have universal features:
- Universal TV Remote for Sure Universal Remote .
- Applications TV remotes from the developer FreeAppsTV . In the list of available are applications for remote control of TVs LG, Samsung, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Telefunken and Toshiba. The design of the remote control itself is simple and familiar, and from the reviews we can conclude that basically everything works as it should. So, if for some reason the official application did not suit you, you can try this option of the remote control.
- Two applications (IR and Wi-FI) for Samsung Smart TV from Backslash developer.
And some others that can be seen in the video below.
If you didn’t find your brand of TV in the presented list, just search on it in the official app store - there is a good chance that there will be a remote control option on your smartphone and for your TV.
