Android OS is also good because the user has full access to the file system and the ability to use file managers to work with it (and with root access, even more complete access). However, not all file managers are equally good and free, have a sufficient set of functions and are presented in Russian.
In this article, a list of the best file managers for Android (mostly free or shareware), a description of their functions, features, some interface solutions and other details that can serve in favor of choosing one or another of them. See also: Best launchers for Android , How to clear memory on Android . There is also an official and simple file manager with the ability to clear Android memory - Files By Google , if you do not need any complex functions, I recommend you try it.
ES File Explorer (ES File Explorer)
ES Explorer is perhaps the most popular file manager for Android, equipped with all the necessary functions for managing files. Completely free in Russian.
The application provides all the standard functions, such as copying, moving, renaming and deleting folders and files. In addition, there is a grouping of media files, work with various locations of internal memory, image preview, built-in archiving tools.
And finally, ES Explorer can work with cloud storage (Google Drive, Drobox, OneDrive and others), supports FTP and LAN connection. There is also an Android application manager.
To summarize, ES File Explorer has almost everything that may be required from a file manager on Android. However, it is worth noting that the latest versions of it have become more perceived by users not so unambiguously: pop-up messages, deterioration of the interface (from the point of view of some users) and other changes that speak in favor of finding another application for these purposes are reported.
You can download ES Explorer on Google Play: here .

The file manager Total Commander is well-known to old-school and not only Windows users. Its developers also introduced a free file manager for Android with the same name. The Android version of Total Commander is completely free without restrictions, in Russian and has the highest user ratings.

Amaze file manager
Many of the users who abandoned ES Explorer left the best comments in their reviews of Amaze File Manager (which is a bit strange, since there are fewer functions in Amaze). This file manager is really good: simple, beautiful, concise, fast working, Russian language and free use are present.
What's with the features:
- All the necessary functions for working with files and folders
- Support for themes
- Work with multiple panels
- Application manager
- Root file access if you have rights on your phone or tablet.
Bottom line: a simple beautiful file manager for Android without extra features. You can download Amaze File Manager on the official page of the program
The Cabinet file manager is still in beta (but available for download from the Play market, in Russian), however, at the current moment it has and performs all the necessary functions for working with files and folders on Android. The only negative phenomenon noted by users is that it can slow down under certain actions.
Among the functions (not counting, in fact, working with files and folders): root access, archiving (zip) support for plugins, a very simple and convenient interface in the style of Material Design. A little, yes, on the other hand, nothing more works. Cabinet file manager page .
File Manager (Explorer from Cheetah Mobile)
Although the Explorer for Android from the developer Cheetah Mobile is not the “coolest” in terms of interface, but, like the two previous options, it allows you to use all its functions completely free and is also equipped with a Russian-language interface (applications with some restrictions will go further).
Among the functions, in addition to the standard copy, paste, move and delete functionality, Explorer includes:
- Support for cloud storage, including Yandex Disk, Google Drive, OneDrive and others.
- Wi-Fi file transfer
- Support for file transfer via FTP, WebDav, LAN / SMB, including the ability to stream media using the specified protocols.
- Built-in archiver
Perhaps, in this application, there is also almost everything that an ordinary user may need and the only controversial moment is his interface. On the other hand, it is likely that you will like it. The official page of the file manager on the Play Store: File Manager (Cheetah Mobile) .
Now about outstanding properties, but partially paid file managers for Android. The first one is Solid Explorer. Among the properties - an excellent interface in Russian, with the ability to include several independent "windows", analysis of the contents of memory cards, internal memory, individual folders, built-in media browsing, connecting cloud storage (including Yandex Disk), LAN, as well as all common transfer protocols data (FTP, WebDav, SFTP).
Additionally, there is support for themes, built-in archiver (unpacking and creating archives) ZIP, 7z and RAR, Root access, support for Chromecast and plugins.
Among other features of the Solid Explorer file manager are design settings and quick access to bookmark folders directly from the Android home screen (long hold of the icon), as in the screenshot below.
I strongly recommend trying it: the first week is completely free (all functions are available), and then you yourself may decide that this is the file manager that you needed. You can download Solid Explorer here: the application page on Google Play .
Mi Explorer (Mi File Explorer) is familiar to owners of Xiaomi phones, but it is perfectly installed on other Android phones and tablets.
The set of functions is approximately the same as in other file managers, from the additional one - built-in Android memory cleaning and support for transferring files via Mi Drop (if you have the appropriate application). The disadvantage, judging by the user reviews - ads may be shown.
You can download Mi Explorer from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mi.android.globalFileexplorer
ASUS File Manager
And another good branded file manager for Android, available on third-party devices - Asus File Explorer. Distinctive features: minimalism and usability, especially for the novice user.
There are not so many additional functions, i.e. basically working with your files, folders, and media files (which are categorized). Unless there is support for cloud storage - Google Drive, OneDrive, Yandex Disk and the proprietary ASUS WebStorage.
ASUS File Manager is available for download on the official page https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.filemanager
FX File Explorer
FX File Explorer is the only file manager in the review that does not have the Russian language, but deserves attention. Some of the functions in the application are available for free and forever, some require payment (connecting network storage, encryption, for example).
Simple file and folder management, while in the mode of two independent windows is available for free, while, in my opinion, in a well-made interface. Among other things, additions (plugins), a clipboard are supported, and when viewing media files - thumbnails instead of icons with the ability to resize.
What else? Support for archives Zip, GZip, 7zip and not only, unpacking RAR, built-in media player and HEX editor (as well as a regular text editor), convenient file sorting tools, transferring files via Wi-Fi from phone to phone, support for transferring files through a browser ( like in AirDroid ) and that's not all.
Despite the abundance of functions, the application is quite compact and convenient, and if you have not stopped at anything yet, but there are no problems with English, you should also try FX File Explorer. You can download it from the official page .
In fact, there are countless file managers available for free download on Google Play. In this article, I tried to indicate only those that have already earned excellent user reviews and popularity. However, if you have something to add to the list, write about your option in the comments.
